Russell Mix Lupine is a beautiful, native perennial that grows up to 3-4 feet tall. It produces stunning flower spikes in blue, pink, red, or white, which attract hummingbirds and bees. Flowers appear from late May to mid-June. Russell Mix Lupine prefers full sun and moderate to moist conditions – perfect for beds and borders or meadow gardening! Also known as Garden Lupine. 1.5g ~ 50 seeds.
GROWING TIPS
Plant seeds directly in the garden as soon as the soil can be worked, roughly a few weeks prior to average last frost date. The process of scarification is a great way to help lupine seeds germinate faster and more easily. Scaring or nicking the seed coatings before planting helps them absorb water better, improving germination. Soaking scarred seeds overnight in water can also help. Optimum soil temperature for seed germination is 65-75°F. Or, start seed indoors 4-8 weeks before transplanting into the garden. Harden off for 1 week prior to planting outside. Transplant to the garden 1-2 weeks after your average last frost. Plants are sensitive to transplant shock, so take care when transplanting.
