HEIRLOOM.

Love-Lies-Bleeding Amaranth is both a striking ornamental and a practical grain crop. Its long, cascading red tassels add bold texture to garden beds and flower arrangements, fresh or dried. Beyond its beauty, this heirloom amaranth produces tiny, protein-rich seeds that can be harvested for food. Heat-tolerant and easy to grow, it’s a standout choice for gardeners who value both beauty and function in their plants. Also known as tassel flower.

GROWING TIPS

Plant seeds directly into the garden starting 1-2 weeks after average last frost date. Optimum soil temperature for seed germination is 65-75 degrees. Or, start seeds indoors 3-4 weeks before your anticipated planting date. Set transplants in the garden 1 to 2 weeks after danger of frost has passed. Seedlings can be sensitive to transplant shock. Do not disturb roots when transplanting, and water thoroughly. The leaves, young flowers, and seeds of Red Garnet are all edible, making it versatile for use as a cooked/raw green, a beautiful ornamental or a grain crop.
