Turnips
Turnips provide both peppery greens and crisp, earthy roots from one quick cool-season crop. Choose small salad turnips for tender fresh eating or larger storage types for roasting, mashing, soups, pickling, and winter meals.
Direct sow in spring or late summer, thin promptly, and keep soil evenly moist. Young roots are the mildest and most tender, while cool fall weather often improves sweetness in larger varieties.
