Purple Tomatillo (often called Morado) brings a berry-tinged twist to the tomatillo’s bright tang. Fruits fill their papery husks, then turn deep violet as they split—color from anthocyanins—and the flavor leans a touch sweeter than green types. Chop for salsa, roast for a smoky sauce, or simmer into jewel-toned jam (tomatillos are naturally high in pectin). The firm skins hold on the grill, and the tart-sweet balance plays beautifully with lime, cilantro, jalapeño, and charred corn. Yellow blossoms draw pollinators, and the fruit brings vitamin C along with eye-catching color.

Start seed indoors 4-6 weeks before average last frost. provide plants with plenty of light to avoid tall, spindly transplants. a heat mat helps to speed up the germination process. optimum soil temperature for seed germination is 65-85 degrees. a few weeks before transplanting time, harden off plants by exposing them to an increasing number of hours outdoors each day. transplant about 2 weeks after your average last frost date. tomatillo's are ready to harvest when the husk turns from green to tan. plants will spread out over a large area but can be caged or trellised when space is limited.
