Kentucky Wonder has been twining up American garden poles since the 1800s — and it’s still beloved for good reason. These heirloom pole beans deliver long, slightly flattened pods with that deep, old-fashioned flavor folks remember from summer suppers past. Pick them young and tender for the best eating, or let some mature and dry for hearty winter soups and stews. Vigorous vines reach 6–8 feet and need a sturdy trellis, rewarding you with heavy yields all season long. As a bonus, they fix nitrogen into the soil, nourishing next year’s crops while they feed your family today — a true classic that’s earned its place in every backyard garden

How to Grow

Start seed outdoors after danger of frost has passed, usually 1-2 weeks after average last frost date. Inoculating seeds w/ nitrogen fixing-bacteria may increase yields in areas newly planted in beans. Optimum soil temperature for seed germination is 65-85 degrees. Wait until air & soil has warmed up in the spring. Seeds planted in cold soil can germinate slowly and rot. Pole beans provide many small harvests through most of the summer. Can be planted again in mid-late summer for an autumn harvest.
