Rosemary brings resinous, piney perfume to roasted meats, potatoes, and focaccia—and it’s a handsome evergreen shrub in mild climates. Traditionally used as a memory tonic and antiseptic rinse, it’s still valued for its concentrated essential oils. Start seeds early and patiently; rosemary is slow to germinate and grow. Once established, give it full sun, sharp drainage, and a light hand with water. Prune lightly after bloom to keep plants compact and take cuttings for easier future starts. In colder zones, pot it and winter indoors by a bright window. A little goes a long way in the kitchen—and in the garden, too.

Start seed indoors 8-10 weeks before transplanting into the garden. Cover soil very lightly as seeds require light to germinate. Optimum soil temperature for seed germination is 70-80 degrees. A heat mat will improve germination.
Sow thickly as germination is naturally low and variable.
Transplant to the garden 1-2 weeks after your average last frost date.

Excited

Rosemary, no matter where you purchase, has a low germination rate. I sprinkled at least 30ish seeds onto my potting soil, and topped it with a sprinkle of vermiculite. I managed to get 10 to sprout! Unfortunately, I killed some transplanting lol. But excited to see these babies grow.

Didn’t come up

We're sorry to hear about your experience with our rosemary seeds, Donna. We strive to provide high-quality seeds, and it's disappointing to learn that the seeds didn't germinate as expected for you. We recommend starting rosemary seed indoors & cover soil very lightly as seeds require light to germinate. A heat mat will improve germination. Sow thickly as germination is naturally low and variable. Seed germination can take between 14-21 days. Customer support will be reaching out through email to help resolve this for you.
