Jing Orange is a Chinese heirloom okra that glows reddish‑orange on the stem and pod ribs, then cooks down to silky tenderness. Pods stay flavorful up to 5 inches, so you get a bigger harvest window. The plants love heat, shrug off drought, and throw hibiscus‑like blooms that pull in pollinators. Slice for gumbo, grill whole, or quick‑pickle spears. Okra’s soluble fiber naturally thickens stews and is easy on digestion. Direct sow once soil is hot, pick every day or two, and the plants will keep on giving all summer.

Plant seed directly into the garden starting 1-3 weeks after average last frost date. Optimum soil temperature for seed germination is 65-85 degrees. When seedlings are 3" high, thin to final spacing. Okra is best when the fruit is tender and immature. Harvest when pods are 2-4" in length. Inspect and harvest at least every other day. Remove any over-mature fruit to encourage production of new flowers. Best when picked small and fresh.
