Mary Washington has anchored American asparagus beds since 1919—thick, tender spears with classic flavor and excellent disease resistance. Asparagus is a long-term crop; start from seed or crowns, weed well the first year, and harvest lightly in year two.

Loaded with folate and vitamin K, it’s a spring tonic vegetable. Let ferns grow tall to feed crowns, and you’ll cut spears for a decade or more.

Every order is packed with care by our small team in Pennsylvania and typically ships within 2–3 business days—often by the next business day. We ship throughout the United States using USPS and UPS.

Unopened items may be returned within 30 days of delivery. If an order arrives damaged, incomplete, or incorrect, please contact us so we can make it right.

Start seed indoors 10–12 weeks before your average last spring frost. Optimum soil temperature for seed germination is 70–75°F, and seeds may take 14-35 days to sprout. Transplant outdoors in spring after danger of hard frost has passed. Set plants in trenches about 4–6” deep, gradually filling in soil as shoots grow. When started from seed, asparagus usually requires 2–3 years before harvest begins. Do not harvest heavily too early, as young plants need time to build strong crowns. Asparagus is a long-lived perennial that grows best in full sun and well-drained soil. Established plants can remain productive for many years.
