Toma Verde is the classic green tomatillo for bright, tangy salsa verde—firm fruits wrapped in papery husks that split when they’re ready. Plants are vigorous and benefit from a companion for pollination, so grow at least two. Native to Mexico, tomatillos love heat and consistent moisture. Roast or simmer fruits to mellow the acidity, then blend with cilantro, garlic, and chiles. High in vitamin C and pectin, they thicken sauces naturally. Stake or cage like tomatoes to keep fruit clean.

Start seed indoors 4-6 weeks before average last frost. provide plants with plenty of light to avoid tall, spindly transplants. a heat mat helps to speed up the germination process. optimum soil temperature for seed germination is 65-85 degrees. a few weeks before transplanting time, harden off plants by exposing them to an increasing number of hours outdoors each day. transplant about 2 weeks after your average last frost date. tomatillo's are ready to harvest when the husk turns from green to tan. plants will spread out over a large area but can be caged or trellised when space is limited.
