Amish Pie traces to 19th-century Amish communities in Maryland—a true kitchen pumpkin with large, tan fruits (often 10–20 lb) and dense, fine-grained flesh. Naturally sweet and low in water, it bakes into custardy pies and tender loaves without needing to cook the purée down. Roast wedges to caramelized edges, whirl into silky soup, fold into ravioli filling, or cube for hearty winter stews; the seeds toast up beautifully for snacking. A reliable long-keeper, its flavor deepens after a short cure, making it a steady pantry staple through cold months. Rich in beta-carotene (vitamin A) and fiber, Amish Pie delivers what bakers want most: honest pumpkin flavor, clean texture, and consistency you can count on.

Start seed indoors 3-4 weeks before transplanting into the garden. Optimum soil temperature for seed germination is 65-85 degrees. Transplant to the garden 2 to 3 weeks after your average last frost. Or, plant seeds directly in the garden 1-2 weeks after average last frost date. Sow 3-5 seeds per hill, thinning to a final 2-3 plants per hill. Pumpkins grow best in a warm site with full sun. Warm soil is essential to good seed germination and emergence. Using transplants can speed production.
