Plant seeds directly in the garden after your average last frost, once the soil has warmed. Sow over cleared, raked soil, then press seed in firmly or cover very lightly. Keep the area evenly moist until seedlings are established. This mix blends annuals and perennials selected to provide blooms from spring through frost, attracting hummingbirds, butterflies, bees, and other beneficial insects. Pollinator plantings can also improve fruit set in vegetables and provide habitat through the season. Leave seed heads standing in fall for birds, then cut back in late winter.
