Dragon’s Tongue is a Dutch heirloom, its pale yellow pods splashed with purple streaks that fade when cooked. Tender, juicy, and entirely stringless, they shine raw in salads or quickly sautéed to keep the color. Plants are vigorous, producing over a long window. As with most beans, the flowers feed pollinators and the roots feed soil microbes. Introduced to U.S. seed savers in the late 20th century, it became a market table favorite fast—eye‑catching and truly flavorful. If you want a bean that starts conversations and fills baskets, this is it.

Start seed outdoors after danger of frost has passed, usually 1-2 weeks after average last frost date. Inoculating seeds w/ nitrogen fixing-bacteria may increase yields in areas newly planted in beans. Optimum soil temperature for seed germination is 65-85 degrees. Wait until air & soil has warmed up in the spring. Seeds planted in cold soil can germinate slowly and rot. Pole beans provide many small harvests through most of the summer. Bush beans usually provide one large harvest, with a 2nd smaller harvest a few weeks later.
