Pink Brandywine is the legendary heirloom that sparked America’s love affair with old-time tomatoes—potato-leaf vines yielding massive, rose-pink fruits with rich, complex flavor and a creamy-smooth texture. Traced back to the 1880s and believed to have originated near Chester County, Pennsylvania, this variety was preserved through generations of seed savers before gaining national attention in the 1980s. Fruits can weigh over a pound and deserve a sturdy stake and steady watering to shine. Slow to ripen but worth every day of the wait, Brandywine remains the gold standard for tomato lovers who value flavor over flash
Start seed indoors 5-7 weeks before last frost. Provide plants with plenty of light to avoid tall, spindly tomato transplants. A sunny south-facing window or grow lights will be sufficient. A heat mat helps to speed up the germination process. Optimum soil temperature for seed germination is 65-85 degrees. A few weeks before transplanting time, harden off plants by exposing them to an increasing number of hours outdoors each day. Delay transplanting until your soil has thoroughly warmed up in the spring; usually about 2 weeks after the your average last frost date. Set transplants in the ground and cover stem so that only 2-3 sets true leaves are exposed, resulting in a stronger root system.

every seed sprouted, unfortunately I cannot attest to tomatoes yet. Too early!

The brandy wine seeds are good so far. The germination wasn’t quite as good as the romas, but still very pleased. The plants are growing well so far. They haven’t produced and fruits at this time.
Gary, thank you for your positive review and for sharing your experience with us. It's important to note that different seed varieties can have variations in germination rates.
