Bachelor's Button Black Ball is a dependable heirloom flower variety that grows up to 36 inches tall. Also known as Cornflower, it produces deep burgundy blossoms fitting for any type of gardening. Furthermore, its flowers offer a valuable source of nourishment for honeybees and wild bees. In addition to its beauty, its petals are safe for consumption - allowing them to be used in salads, as well as cottage cheese and desserts. Give this variety a try! 1.5g ~ 300 seeds.

Plant seeds directly in the garden as soon as the soil can be worked, roughly a few weeks prior to average last frost date. Optimum soil temperature for seed germination is 60-70°F. When seedlings are 1" tall, thin to 1 plant every 6-12". Or, start seed indoors 3-5 weeks before transplanting into the garden. Transplant to the garden 1-2 weeks after your average last frost. Self-sows freely and can reappear in the garden the next year. It reaches heights of up to 3 feet and may need support. Its edible flowers are perfect for fresh bouquets or drying.
