Bachelor's Button - Jubilee Gem - Organic
HEIRLOOM, ORGANIC.
Jubilee Gem Bachelor Button is a hardy heirloom that brings effortless charm to the garden. Its frilly, periwinkle-blue blooms, reaching up to 2” across, are the quintessential bachelor’s button color. Growing to about 2 feet tall, this semi-dwarf variety flowers abundantly over a long season, especially with regular deadheading. A 1937 All-American Selections silver medal winner, it has stood the test of time for good reason. Frost-hardy when young, drought-tolerant, and deer-resistant, it thrives in tough conditions and will readily reseed for seasons of easy beauty.
GROWING TIPS
Plant seeds directly in the garden as soon as the soil can be worked, roughly a few weeks prior to average last frost date. Optimum soil temperature for seed germination is 60-70°F. When seedlings are 1" tall, thin to 1 plant every 6-12". Or, start seed indoors 3-5 weeks before transplanting into the garden. Transplant to the garden 1-2 weeks after your average last frost. Self-sows freely and can reappear in the garden the next year. It reaches heights of up to 3 feet and may need support. Its edible flowers are perfect for fresh bouquets or drying.
