Lacinato Kale is an Italian heirloom traced back to eighteenth century Tuscany. Its 10" leaves are dark grey / blue green and slightly puckered. While it's excellent in containers, it can also be grown in beds, where the flavor is enhanced with frost and cold weather. Plus, its high nutritional value makes it a great choice for healthy eating! 500mg ~ 150 seeds
GROWING TIPS
Plant seeds directly into the garden starting 4-6 weeks before average last frost date continuing until about that date. You can also start seeds indoors 5-7 weeks before transplanting. Optimum soil temperature for seed germination is 45-80 degrees. Kale is a cool season crop so avoid letting it mature in hot weather. High temperatures slow plant growth and make the leaves tough and bitter. Grow it in the spring, then again in the fall. Frost can improve the flavor of kale.
