Crego Mix China aster produces large, shaggy chrysanthemum‑like blooms in a spectrum from white to lavender and rose. Developed for cutting, stems are long and sturdy, and the more you harvest, the more the plant responds. China asters prefer rich soil and steady moisture but detest overcrowding—good spacing keeps mildew at bay. Historically, asters symbolized patience and elegance; in floral work, they’re prized for late-season volume. Start indoors for earliest flowers, then keep snipping for a steady parade of color.

How to Grow

Start seed indoors 6-8 weeks before transplanting into the garden. Optimum soil temperature for seed germination is 65-80
°F
. Transplant to the garden 1-2 weeks after your average last frost date. Aster is more sensitive to transplant shock so carefully set in the ground. Or, plant seeds directly in the garden after average last frost date when soil temperature is at least 65
°F. Harvest fresh: as florets begin to open. Place immediately in water. Harvest dried: when blooms are fully open.
