Miss Jekyll love-in-a-mist floats sky-blue, lace-collared blooms over finely cut foliage, then follows with curious, ballooned seed pods well suited to drying. Named for British garden writer Gertrude Jekyll, this 1910s selection gives cottage borders a dreamy, self-sown look without getting weedy.
Nigella seeds (“kalonji”) of other species are used as spice, but this ornamental is grown for flowers and pods, not the kitchen. Direct sow in cool soil; it resents transplanting. Let a few pods ripen and it will return lightly each year.
Every order is packed with care by our small team in Pennsylvania and typically ships within 2–3 business days—often by the next business day. We ship throughout the United States using USPS and UPS.
Unopened items may be returned within 30 days of delivery. If an order arrives damaged, incomplete, or incorrect, please contact us so we can make it right.
We stand behind every packet we sell. Our seeds are carefully selected, tested for germination, untreated, and guaranteed to be true to variety.
Your seeds are covered for one year from the date of purchase. If they fail to germinate under reasonable growing conditions, arrive damaged, or do not grow true to type, contact us and we’ll make it right with a replacement, store credit, or refund.
Plant seeds directly in the garden early in the season after the soil can be worked, or after your average last frost date. Optimum soil temperature for seed germination is 60–65°F. Cover soil very lightly, as seeds require light to germinate. Or, start seed indoors 4–6 weeks before transplanting into the garden. Transplant carefully, as nigella is sensitive to root disturbance. Flowers attract bees as well as other beneficial insects. Succession sow every 2–3 weeks in spring for a longer season of blooms and pods.

So pretty super excited!
my nigella seeds took a long time to sprout, but once they did they have been incredibly reliable. I have had a hard time this season because frost came early, but the nigellas continue to grow, even inside. Really love them!
Thank you for your review, Peyton! We're so glad to hear that you've had success with our Love-In-A Mist nigella seeds and that they've been able to withstand the early frost. Nigella seeds can take up to 2 weeks to germinate with the optimum soil temperature for seed germination around 60-75°F. Thank you for choosing our product and we hope you'll continue to enjoy them in the future.
When I read on line it read Nigella were Perennials. Then when I received the seed the directions To start growing them inside and then plant them after the frost. This tells me they are not perennials they are annuals? So I guess I can only enjoy one season of them?
Hi Laurel, thank you for your review. I'm sorry to hear that you are not satisfied with the product. Love-in-a-Mist plants are annuals--they will grow for one season and then die off. Our seed packets and website listing both indicate that this is an annual. We apologize for any confusion this may have caused.
