California Giants zinnia lives up to its name with towering plants and 4–6" blooms in a carnival of colors. A century-old cutting classic, it delivers armloads of stems for jars and markets, asking only for sun, spacing, and regular picking. Butterflies and bees work the centers while you work the scissors. Zinnias were once dismissed as weeds in their native Mexico until breeders saw their potential—California Giants proved how far they could go. Plant a row and you’ll see why every cutting garden makes room for them.

Plant seeds directly in the garden after your average last frost, once soil has warmed. Optimum soil temperature for germination is 70–80°F. Or, start seed indoors 4–6 weeks before transplanting. Harden off plants before transplanting, and set them out after danger of frost has passed. Zinnias grow best in full sun and well-drained soil. Remove spent blooms regularly to encourage continued flowering and branching. Good air circulation helps keep plants healthy and blooming through the season.
