Nabo Roxo Comprido - Turnip Seeds
HEIRLOOM.
The Nabo Roxo Comprido turnip, a traditional heirloom from Portugal, stands out for its elongated, cylindrical shape, which sets it apart from the typical globe-shaped turnips. It boasts vibrant purple skin and crisp, mild-flavored white flesh, making it perfect for soups, stews, or fresh salads. Its tender greens are equally delightful, adding a nutritious twist to meals. Thriving in cool seasons, this Portuguese variety is as beautiful as it is delicious.
GROWING TIPS
Turnips develop the best quality bulbs when grown in the cool weather of early spring or late fall. Plant seeds directly into the garden starting 4-6 weeks before average last frost date. Optimum soil temperature for seed germination is 50-70 degrees. Sow thickly, then thin to 3-6" apart when leaves are about 4" high. This will be your first harvest of turnip greens. Grow again in the fall, roughly 4-6 weeks before your average first frost. Harvest roots when the are 2-3" in diameter.
