Italian oregano delivers the warm, pungent flavor that anchors pizza sauce, roasted vegetables, and grilled meats. A perennial in mild zones, it spreads into a fragrant mat that bees work all summer once it flowers. Folk medicine leans on oregano’s antimicrobial and antioxidant qualities; in the kitchen it shines fresh or dried. Grow in lean, well‑drained soil and full sun—too much fertility dulls flavor. Harvest stems before bloom for the most intense oils, then cut back to encourage bushy regrowth. This is the reliable, no‑nonsense oregano you want near the kitchen door.

Start seed indoors 6-8 weeks before transplanting into the garden. Cover soil very lightly as seeds require light to germinate. Optimum soil temperature for seed germination is 65-75 degrees. Transplant to the garden 1-2 weeks after your average last frost date. Prefers well-drained soil. Established plants can
Be cut back several times throughout the growing season. Pruning encourages new growth on the plant. Great for container and in-ground gardening.
