Marketmore 76 is the standard slicing cuke—dark green, 8–9" fruits on vigorous vines that keep producing in summer heat. Released by Cornell in the 1970s for disease resistance, it still beats many hybrids for flavor and reliability. Crisp, juicy, and never bitter if kept watered. High in hydration and trace minerals, cucumbers are garden hydration sticks. Trellis for straighter fruit and easier picking, and harvest often. If you want one cucumber that just performs, Marketmore is it.

Plant seeds directly in the garden in the spring after the danger of frost has passed, roughly 1-2 weeks after the average last frost date and when daytime temps are near 70°f. Sow 5-6 seeds per hill and thin to 2-3 plants. Optimum soil temperature for seed germination is 65-80 degrees. For transplants, start seed indoors 3-4 weeks before transplanting into the garden. Transplant to the garden 2-3 weeks after your average last frost date. Harvest when small & pick daily. Mature cucumbers on the vine slow production of new fruit.
