Marvel of Four Seasons (Merveille des Quatre Saisons) is a French heirloom butterhead with ruby‑tipped leaves and a tender, sweet heart. It tolerates cool springs and autumn chills, living up to the name. Lettuce gives folate and vitamin K; this one gives plate appeal. Sow in succession, water evenly, and harvest heads before heat spikes. Old‑world beauty with modern reliability.

Plant seeds directly into the garden starting 4 weeks before average last frost date or as soon as the soil can be worked. You can also start seeds indoors 2-4 weeks before transplanting. Optimum soil temperature for seed germination is 50-70 degrees. Lettuce seed does not germinate well if soil temperature is above 80 degrees. Resume planting in late summer for a fall harvest. Lettuce is cold tolerant and will tolerate light to moderate frosts. Succession plantings every at 2 weeks intervals will provide a steady supply.

Small, light-colored arugula leaves

Hi,
My arugula is up and already flowering. It’s a bit disappointing because the leaves are so small and not peppery and flavorful like I like arugula.
The lettuce is fine. I was hoping for a heartier lettuce - not so very delicate, though.
I’ll probably go with a different seed company next year.

Hello Anne, we appreciate your feedback. Arugula thrives best when planted in cool weather, as it will not flourish well in heat and will bolt to seed quickly, resulting in a less than desirable harvest. Detailed growing instructions are available on our seed packets and website to assist in achieving optimal results.

We apologize for any inconvenience caused and welcome any further questions or concerns you may have. You can reach customer support at support@bucktownseed.com Monday-Friday. Thank you for choosing our seeds, and we look forward to the opportunity to better serve you in the future.
