Oregon Sugar Pod II is the snow pea that earns its space—broad, flat pods that stay tender and sweet even when they size up, with a clean snap that holds in the wok or on the cutting board. Compact 28" vines load up early and keep setting, so a short trellis yields bowl after bowl. Bred at Oregon State University for dependable performance, it brings helpful disease resistance (including pea enation mosaic and powdery mildew) and cool-weather tolerance for spring and fall runs. Eat pods raw with hummus, toss whole into quick stir-fries, ribbon into salads, or blanch and freeze for winter. Naturally rich in vitamin C, fiber, and plant protein—simple, productive, and genuinely delicious.
Plant seeds directly into the garden starting 3-5 weeks before average last frost date or as soon as the soil can be worked. Optimum soil temperature for seed germination is 50-70 degrees. It can take seed about 2 weeks to germinate at 50°f, less as the soil warms. For taller varieties, use crop supports such as a trellis or chicken wire to keep vines upright. Planting double rows of peas on each side of a trellis will result in a more productive harvest. For a fall crop, sow about 2 months before frost. Keep seeds well watered to encourage good germination.
