Purple Top White Globe is the classic American fall turnip—smooth white roots capped with purple where sun kisses them. Mild and slightly sweet when pulled young, they mash, roast, or pickle beautifully; tender greens are a bonus mess of vitamins A and C. A quick 50-day crop, it’s perfect after summer crops come out. Sow thick, thin early, and keep moisture even to avoid pithiness. Old‑timers knew a pot of turnips could stretch a meal; you’ll grow them for flavor, too.

Turnips develop the best quality bulbs when grown in the cool weather of early spring or late fall. Plant seeds directly into the garden starting 4-6 weeks before average last frost date. Optimum soil temperature for seed germination is 50-70 degrees. Sow thickly, then thin to 3-6" apart when leaves are about 4" high. This will be your first harvest of turnip greens. Grow again in the fall, roughly 4-6 weeks before your average first frost. Harvest roots when the are 2-3" in diameter.

Sorry we haven't planted

It's a VERY long story but I ordered seeds for my Dad, who uses a walker to move, did not prepare to plant. So some we will plant in the fall and others shortly.
