Straight Eight has been the gardener’s slicer since the 1930s—uniform, straight 8" fruits with classic cucumber crunch. Vines are vigorous and keep producing if you pick often. Great fresh, for spears, or quick fridge pickles. Cucumbers are mostly water, but they carry silica and potassium too. Trellis for straight fruit and clean harvests, and water consistently to avoid bitterness. When you need a no‑nonsense slicer that just works, Straight Eight is it.

Plant seeds directly in the garden in the spring after the danger of frost has passed, roughly 1-2 weeks after the average last frost date and when daytime temps are near 70°f. Sow 5-6 seeds per hill and thin to 2-3 plants. Optimum soil temperature for seed germination is 65-80 degrees. For transplants, start seed indoors 3-4 weeks before transplanting into the garden. Transplant to the garden 2-3 weeks after your average last frost date. Harvest when small & pick daily. Mature cucumbers on the vine slow production of new fruit.
