Blue flax is a beautiful, low-maintenance and easy to grow perennial wildflower. The perennial flax flower has a delicate, sky-blue color that contrasts beautifully with its pale yellow center. They last only one day but are replaced with new blooms the next morning. It needs little water and the occasional pruning, and its self-seeding nature ensures a beautiful display each year. This native american wildflower attracts butterflies and hummingbirds, so it makes for an excellent addition to any garden or landscape! Hardiness zones 5-9.

How to Grow

Plant seeds directly in the garden as soon as the soil can be worked in the spring, or 4-6 weeks before average last frost date. Flax is a self-seeding variety that is good for attracting butterflies and bees. Plants are drought-resistant and will grow in poor soils, making them for hot, humid summers or cold, windy winters. They also tolerate partial shade, making them a great choice for mixed gardens or areas with difficult growing conditions. Can be used to make linen fabrics.
