Lacinato Kale is an Italian heirloom traced back to eighteenth century Tuscany. Its 10" leaves are dark grey / blue green and slightly puckered. While it's excellent in containers, it can also be grown in beds, where the flavor is enhanced with frost and cold weather. Plus, its high nutritional value makes it a great choice for healthy eating! 500mg ~ 150 seeds

Plant seeds directly into the garden starting 4-6 weeks before average last frost date continuing until about that date. You can also start seeds indoors 5-7 weeks before transplanting. Optimum soil temperature for seed germination is 45-80 degrees. Kale is a cool season crop so avoid letting it mature in hot weather. High temperatures slow plant growth and make the leaves tough and bitter. Grow it in the spring, then again in the fall. Frost can improve the flavor of kale.

Scientific Name: Brassica oleracea
Days to Maturity: 50-80
Seed Depth: 1/2"
Days to Sprout: 6-10
Plant Spacing: 12-24"
Row Spacing: 1.5-2'
Light Requirements: Sunny / Partial shade
Plant Height: 24-36"
Life Cycle: Biennial
Frost Hardy: Yes

I prefer this kind of Kale because it has less nooks and crannies for bugs to hide in, plus it’s heirloom which is the best path. Thanks for providing such a large volume of variety and the values that drive your mission. Shipped fast too.

I really can’t say anything about these seeds. I haven’t had any germinate yet on two different tries. I don’t think it’s the product, I think it must be operator (me) error. It’s been a horrendous year for me. Can’t figure out what I’m doing wrong. Check back with me, I still have some seeds and I haven’t surrendered yet.

Hi Steve, thank you so much for trying our Lacinato Kale seeds. We're sorry to hear that they haven't germinated for you yet and we would love to help troubleshoot the issue. Kale is very cold tolerant, and seeds can be planted 4-6 weeks before average last frost continuing until about that date. For a fall crop, plant mid-late summer. Kale prefers well drained fertile soil high in organic matter. Consistent moisture is important for seed germination.
