Wild Bergamot (Monarda fistulosa) is a hardy North American native with lilac flower clusters and a minty, oregano-like aroma. Indigenous peoples used it for teas to ease colds and stomach upsets; today it’s prized for feeding bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds mid-summer. Plants spread by rhizomes, forming clumps that can be divided every few years.

Full sun and decent drainage help fend off mildew. Cut stems for vases or leave seed heads for winter structure. If you’re building a pollinator corridor or prairie patch, Wild Bergamot is a cornerstone species with beauty and purpose.
