Gold yarrow (Achillea filipendulina) sends flat clusters of deep yellow blooms above ferny foliage and holds its color well when dried. Traditionally used in herbal medicine for teas and topical applications, yarrow also attracts beneficial insects and shrugs off drought once established. Plant it in sunny, lean soil for a tough perennial that ties meadows, herb gardens, and mixed borders together with texture and long‑lasting color.

Start seed indoors 8-10 weeks before transplanting into the garden. Light is required for germination. Optimum soil temperature for seed germination is 55-65°f. Keep seeds moist through bottom watering, or lightly misting soil surface making sure not to displace small seeds. Transplant to the garden after your average last frost date. Or, plant seeds directly into the garden 2-4 weeks after your average last frost date, or in the fall for spring germination. Makes an excellent cut flower, often used for herbal remedies and attracts beneficial insects.
