Lauren’s Grape poppy, selected by designer Lauren Springer, brings wine‑purple petals and dark centers to early summer borders. Each bloom is brief, but plants flower in succession and finish with pods perfect for drying or seed saving. Direct sow in cool soil, ignore it a little, and it will reward you with moody color among pastels and grasses. An easy way to add depth without crowding the garden palette.

How to Grow

Plant seeds directly in the garden as soon as the soil can be worked, or 2-4 weeks before your average last frost date. Optimum soil temperature for seed germination is 60-75°f. Starting transplants is not recommended. Poppies are very susceptible to transplant shock. Poppies germinate best in cool soil and are frost tolerant. When seedlings are 2" tall, thin to 1 plant every 6-10".
