Batavian Full Heart Endive is a large, broad, slightly-twisted lettuce-like leaf with a round 12-16 inch tightly packed head. AAS Winner in the 1930's. Commonly known as Escarole. The leaves are well blanched, creamy-white, and have a very deep heart. The texture is thick and bulky. Escarole is a signature ingredient in the Italian American holiday soup known as “Straciatella”. 800mg ~ 500 seeds
GROWING TIPS
For spring planting, plant seeds directly in the garden as soon as the soil can be worked, or start transplants 4-6 weeks before transplanting into the garden. Optimum soil temperature for seed germination is 50-65 degrees. For fall planting, direct sow seeds or place transplants in garden about 8 weeks before average first frost date.
