Lemon cucumber sets round, golden fruits about tennis‑ball size, with thin skins and a mild, refreshing crunch. Introduced in the late 1800s, it became a fair‑booth favorite for novelty and flavor. Plants are vigorous but the fruit stays manageable—handier for snacking and jars than giant slicers. High in water and trace minerals, cucumbers are garden hydration. Trellis to save space or let vines ramble; pick often to keep production rolling. Lemon adds cheer to the salad bowl without dominating it.

Plant seeds directly in the garden in the spring after the danger of frost has passed, roughly 1-2 weeks after the average last frost date and when daytime temps are near 70°f. Sow 5-6 seeds per hill and thin to 2-3 plants. Optimum soil temperature for seed germination is 65-80 degrees. For transplants, start seed indoors 3-4 weeks before transplanting into the garden. Transplant to the garden 2-3 weeks after your average last frost date
