Texas Plume celosia sends up feathery plumes in jewel tones—scarlet, magenta, gold—that hold their color in both garden and vase. Celosia originates in tropical Africa and Asia; its young leaves are eaten as “soko” in parts of West Africa, though this variety is mainly ornamental. Heat and humidity don’t faze it, and the blooms dry beautifully for winter crafts. Plant it where you want vertical color that lasts, from cutting rows to front‑porch pots. Few annuals deliver such long, unwavering bloom in brutal summer weather.

Start seed indoors 6-8 weeks before transplanting into the garden. Optimum soil temperature for seed germination is 65-75
°F
. Cover soil very lightly as seeds require light to germinate. Harden off and transplant to the garden 1-2 weeks after your average last frost date. Prefers well-drained, fertile soil high in organic matter. Or, plant seeds directly in the garden after average last frost date for locations with a long growing season. Excellent for both fresh and dried cut flowers.
