Violet Queen zinnia serves up deep magenta‑violet blooms on tall stems made for cutting. Intense color holds in heat and sun, and the plants keep blooming if you keep harvesting. Zinnias feed butterflies, especially swallowtails and monarchs, and thrive in soils other annuals find exhausting. Originating in Mexico, they were once dismissed as “ragged” before breeders revealed their potential—this queen proves the point. Plant a block for a purple punch in bouquets and a late‑season nectar bar in the garden.

Plant seeds directly in the garden after average last frost date when soil has warmed up. Optimum soil temperature for seed germination is 70-90°f. Or, start seed indoors 3-4 weeks before transplanting into the garden. Transplant to the garden 2 to 3 weeks after your average last frost. A week before transplanting time, harden off plants by exposing them to an increasing number of hours outdoors each day. Requires full sun and well drained soil. Cut back old blossoms to encourage new growth.
