Thai basil (often sold as Siam Queen) holds its anise‑licorice punch through cooking, so it shines in curries, pho, and savory stir fries. Dark purple stems and violet blooms add color while compact plants stay tidy in pots or beds. Originating in Southeast Asia, it prefers the same conditions as sweet basil—warm soil, good drainage, and frequent pinching to delay flowering. Flowers lure pollinators, but leaves are best before bloom for full flavor. High in antioxidants and essential oils, Thai basil pulls double duty as kitchen staple and pollinator magnet.

Plant seeds directly into the garden starting 1-2 weeks after average last frost date, when air temperature is above 65°f. Optimum soil temperature for seed germination is 65-80°f. Or, start seed indoors 3-4 weeks before transplanting into the garden. Transplant to the garden 1-2 weeks after your average last frost date. You can keep plants from bolting by pinching back their flower stalks.

Thai Basil!

Our Thai Basil from Bucktown Seed Co germinated well and is growing wonderfully. It's our second year getting herbs from Bucktown seeds and we've only had success. We're already harvesting some others planted early spring.

Thank you for your wonderful review, Peter! We're thrilled to hear that your Thai Basil has germinated well and is thriving. It's fantastic to know that you've had consistent success with our herbs for the second year in a row, and we hope you continue to enjoy the bountiful harvest of your early spring plantings. Happy harvesting and happy gardening!
