🚚 FREE SHIPPING for all orders over $99!
Genovese Zucchini is an Italian heirloom prized for its superb flavor and tender texture. The pale to medium green fruits, faintly ribbed and creamy inside, stay soft and delicate even if you miss a day’s harvest. Originating near Genoa and long favored in Italian markets, it’s a reliable, heavy producer on compact, open plants—easy to harvest, early to bear and generous all season with steady care. Pick at 5–7" for buttery, mildly nutty squash perfect for grilling, sautéing, or folding into fritters, pastas, and frittatas. Harvest smaller for baby zucchini and save the blossoms for stuffing. A true kitchen staple with deep old-world roots—productive, versatile, and full of flavor.
Plant seeds directly in the garden 1-2 weeks after average last frost date. Sow 3-5 seeds per hill, thinning to a final 2-3 plants per hill. Space between hills should be 3-6'. Optimum soil temperature for seed germination is 65-85 degrees. Or, start seed indoors 3-4 weeks before transplanting into the garden. Transplant to the garden 2 to 3 weeks after your average last frost. Squash grow best in a warm site with full sun. Warm soil is essential to good seed germination and emergence. Using transplants can speed production.
